Welcome information
When do we meet?
Every Saturday 9.15am -1pm in Quay Lane car park, Sudbury, Suffolk,

For our Saturday sessions we usually have at least two coaches and beginners/improvers are most welcome.
Do remember to get checked into the attendance register.

The first session is free, but after that you need to join for the bargain fee anually of:
£25 (junior)
£30 (adult)
£40 (family)
There is a £2.50 supplement for each adult because we have to pay a levy to Paddle UK (our governing body) per member.
Please complete the form here:

then send it to here
and finally transfer your membership fee to our account.

Saturday paddle hire costs
Our boat and kit hire fees are:
£5 per adult
£3 per child
This includes all the kit needed for the day.
This can either be paid bank transfer or by card on the day. We can take cash but would prefer transfer or card.
Safeguarding
If you have concerns regarding safeguarding it is important to speak up and contact our Welfare officer via their email
Children
We are happy to take unaccompanied children on the regular Saturday paddles and all the coaches are DBS checked. However, this is on the strict understanding that parents remain available should they need to be contacted and are on time to pick up children at the end of the morning.
We are not a free childcare service.
As with any other paddlers, children may only participate if they are willing to follow the instructions from the coaches.

Facilities
There are no facilities at the quay, so most of us pop into one of the local supermarkets on the way.
On special club occasions we sometimes arrange to use one of the local amenities.
Hiring kit
If you are hiring boats and kit on a Saturday paddle then you will need to be beside the club compound (end of the road past the Quay theatre and rowing club at the bottom of Quay Lane on the right hand side) arriving no later than 9.15am and ask one of the leaders or coaches to help you organise kit.
What and not to wear
Being dressed appropriately is key to your safety. We will not be able to let you paddle unless your are in suitable kit.
Lower body
Nylon/Lycra tracksuit bottoms or gym leggings, drysuit or even wetsuit
Shorts if warm
no jeans
Upper body
synthetic T shirt
synthetic fleece
thin rain jacket (if wet)
Footwear
water shoes
wetsuit boots
old trainers which will get wet
Your shoes need to be flexible and thin soled because thick trainer soles mean you can’t fit your feet into a kayak.
When it is cold, we have some top layers (cags) we can lend but having warm synthetic base layers is important.
Snacks and drinks
Bring a drink and snack to take along in your boat. It is especially important to stay hydrated when the weather gets warm.
A change of clothes
We recommend bringing a towel and a change of clothes to to leave in your car (or with one of the coaches).
You are very unlikely to fall in by accident but may get wet (and the juniors do seem to like jumping in!)

Policies and risk assessments
You will find all links to our policies and risk assessments at the bottom of this page
Peer paddles
Clubs members will often arrange informal paddles with other club members. These paddles (sometimes called “peer paddles”) are not part of the club’s activities.
A peer paddle takes place outside the club structure, is not risk assessed nor will there be any coaching or a designated leader.
Accordingly, everyone participating does so entirely at their own risk and needs to be able to manage their own safety (although naturally our club members will try to help others out if they get into difficulties).
If you hear a peer paddle is taking place you are of course welcome to ask someone who is going what the arrangements are but please don’t put them in an awkward position by trying to join a paddle that is not suitable for your ability or the boat you have available.
